Yasmine Hamdan
Album presentation : Al Jamilat (Crammed Discs, 2017)
In her second album Al Jamilat (‘The Beautiful Ones’), which she jointly produced with UK producers Luke Smith (Foals, Depeche Mode, Lily Allen) and Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Carl Barät), Yasmine Hamdan pursues her musical exploration of Arabic Pop, while taking a look at the mutations at work within the Arab world. While Yasmine’s unconventional and fresh vocals are definitely connected to the traditions of Arabic music, the songs take in elements from contemporary Western electronic, pop and folk music.
Yasmine is a wanderer, and immerses us in many cultures during this concert. She’s performed prestigious shows on four continents, including a series of performances for the release of the Jim Jarmusch movie Only Lovers Left Alive, in which she features singing, onscreen, in one of the film’s most memorable scenes.
