En Avant ! International Day of Children’s Rights
For the occasion of the International Day of Children’s Rights, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation has launched an event to better raise awareness of children’s rights among young and old alike, and in a fun and celebratory format. Belgium, like almost every other State in the world, ratified the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the United Nations, on 20 November 1989. It defines a child as any human under the age of 18. It is based on 4 fundamental principles: non-discrimination, the best interest of the child, the right to life, survival and development, and, finally, participation.
The festival, called En Avant!, is in line with these principles. It is open to all children and young people and is entirely free of charge. There will be creative activities, cookery workshops, concerts, cinematic, sport and expression sessions and a variety of other events.
So, if you are aged between 0 and 18, regardless of where you are from or what language you speak, we want you to benefit from this festival, and especially take advantage of your right to leisure, today... and all your rights, all year round.
