Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Requiem Kv. 626
Orchestre Zelig & Gran Cantoria
Mozart's Requiem, his posthumous masterpiece, both emblematic and mythical about his own death at 35, was anonymously commissioned in July 1791, but only completed after his death, 5 months later, by his pupils Joseph Eybler and Franz Xaver Süßmayr, a.o. In 1827, at last, his wife Constance revealed the methods for completing an order shrouded with mystery, right down to the fragmentation of the autograph manuscripts, and still giving rise today, to alternative completions. In current version completed by Süßmayr, the choir will be front and centre, exploring the close link between musical and sacred text.
The Zelig Orchestra was founded with young musicians from the Belgian Royal Conservatories, aiming for a professional career. Links were forged with their conductor Diego Borrello at the Conservatory, and supported by the CoCoF since 2015; they have continued naturally to collaborate on various projects, ranging from Mozart to contemporary music.
The Gran Cantoria vocal ensemble merges two choirs directed by Diego Borrello: Gran Legato, from Grand-Leez, and Cantoria Lirica from Forest. It has been built on amateur singers who evolve in this subtle blend of good temper and a demanding spirit. Gran Cantoria has been added to the Art et Vie catalogue in 2018.
This concert is organized in benefit of the Queen Fabiola Children's University Hospital, with the support of the Rotary Club of Belgium.
