Elsa Grether & Ferenc Vizi
album release : Parfums d’Espagne (2025, Aparté)
Violinist Elsa Grether previously impressed with her performances during Piknik concerts. Ten years ago, she appeared on stage with pianist Ferenc Vizi in Studio 1, presenting the mystical sonatas of Ernest Bloch and Arvo Pärt. Today, they present a diverse program of Spanish music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These composers blended Spanish folklore with new composition techniques they discovered in Paris from Ravel, Debussy, d'Indy, and Saint-Saëns. In Turina’s work, you can hear the impressionistic influences. Additionally, Pablo de Sarasate was a Spanish violin virtuoso who showcased his virtuosity in works such as the Fantasía Carmen, featuring themes from Bizet's opera.
