Following the accident of the lead singer, a young opera singer, Betty, is chosen to perform the role of Lady Macbeth in Verdi's opera, a work with a reputation for bringing bad luck. A series of murders begins in the young woman's entourage, and she finds herself pursued by a mysterious, possessive fan.
