Soundscapes

Living Masterpieces

Join us for an inspiring morning with innovative cellists Santiago Cañón-Valencia, Andrea Casarrubios, Pierre Fontenelle, and Taeguk Mun alongside pianist Stephanie Proot as they create modern soundscapes that attest to the timeless expression of the cello voice.

The concert opens with young Belgian talent Pierre Fontenelle performing cellist-composer Jean-Paul Dessy’s Philia, a contemplative work exploring deep emotional connections. The spotlight then turns to Andrea Casarrubios, Spanish-American composer-cellist who performs her own Three Pieces for Cello and Piano —three evocative compositions inspired by nature, poetry, and cultural heritage. She is later joined by Taeguk Mun and Pierre Fontenelle for her captivating work, Maktub for Three Cellos, a piece that embodies unity and dialogue between the performers.

Then comes another modern Colombian cellist-composer, Santiago Cañón-Valencia showcasing his compositional prowess with Ascenso hacia lo profundo, a deeply introspective piece that explores themes of ascent and introspection. The program concludes with Cañón-Valencia’s vibrant interpretation of Alberto Ginastera’s Pampeana No. 2, a dynamic work inspired by the rhythms and spirit of Argentine folk music.

Experience an immersion of modern cello soundscapes created by those living side-by-side with us in this crazy day and age!

Reserve your tickets now for a concert that promises to be as moving as it is introspective!
