Closing Concert
Seasons of Sound: A Cello Celebration Across Centuries!
Prepare for an extraordinary afternoon as world-class cellists—Santiago Cañón-Valencia, Andrea Casarrubios, Anne Gastinel, Christian-Pierre La Marca, Taeguk Mun, Didier Poskin, Aleksey Shadrin, Sul Yoon, Han Bin Yoon, and Lily Maisky—come together to present a stunning Closing Concert with a program that transcends eras and styles.
The concert begins with Andrea Casarrubios performing her emotionally charged solo work, SEVEN, a powerful tribute to the essential workers during the COVID pandemic. Aleksey Shadrin follows with Piatti’s virtuosic arrangement of Locatelli’s Sonata in D Major, full of Baroque elegance and technical brilliance. Han Bin Yoon then brings his expressive touch to Offenbach's lyrical Les Larmes de Jacqueline and showcases his virtuosity in David Popper's fiery and dramatic Hungarian Rhapsody.
The centerpiece of the evening is a collection of cello ensemble pieces curated by Han Bin Yoon, titled “The Seasons Over Time,” masterfully combining Vivaldi’s iconic Four Seasons with Astor Piazzolla’s passionate and rhythmic Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. The cellists capture the contrast between Vivaldi’s Baroque precision and Piazzolla's tango-infused energy, creating a dynamic conversation between two eras. From the bright and lively Primavera (Spring) to the intense heat of Estate (Summer), the rich hues of Autunno (Autumn), and the icy tension of Inverno (Winter), the performance will take you through a stunning range of emotions and styles.
Join us for this unforgettable moment where the past meets the present in a dazzling display of talent and artistry!
