In a story by the Turkish poet and writer Nazim Hikmet, a certain Dr. Littman finds himself gazing at a heart in a bowl. As he contemplates it, he begins to imagine the love life of the heart’s owner, Madame Tchabaï, and begins to hum love songs. Jean-Luc Fafchamps set this strange daydream to music and added his own favorite songs to create a cycle for soprano, cello and piano. These ingenious arrangements of well-known and lesser-known songs are interspersed with gems from the 20th-century repertoire.
