Olga Sedakova, Russia’s leading poet, could hardly publish anything during the Soviet period. Her first collection of poetry appeared in Paris in 1986. These days, her work belongs to the top of contemporary poetry today. She translates great masters such as Eliot, Pound, Rilke and Celan, and by doing so positions herself in a tradition of controversial poetry. Sedakova also writes essays on religion and society.
