In 1944, newlywed Suzu moves into her parents-in-law's house in Kure, near Hiroshima, and opposite the imperial naval base that is constantly under fire from American raids up to the fatal bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. The war seen through the prism of an ordinary traditional Japanese family fighting daily to survive in a sensitive film focusing on a great moment of history in this particular corner of the world.
