Madrigali nuovi e antichi
A composer that was both brilliant and visionary as well as marginal and subversive, Gesualdo left us one of the most original and surprising works of the Renaissance, a particularity which he shares, surprisingly, with Caravaggio, his contemporary. Gesualdo’s madrigals, with their sensuous and dolorous contents, have a power of seduction and fascination which leaves no listener indifferent.
