Augustin Dumay’s Brahms #2
with Augustin Dumay, Lorenzo Gatto, David Kadouch, Miguel da Silva, Henri Demarquette & Louis Lortie
Brahms refrained from writing symphonies and string quartets for years, believing Beethoven to be the high-water mark in these genres. It was only when he was 43 years old that he published his First Symphony which was promptly heralded as “Beethoven's Tenth”. Beethoven’s spell was broken and Brahms became world famous. The chamber music played during this concert dates from the years in which he firmly established his name and fame as a composer.
