Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra
Richard Strauss said of his Also sprach Zarathustra: “First movement: sunrise. Man feels the power of God”. The impressive musical work is now part of our collective memory thanks to Stanley Kubrick’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. As a counterweight to so much cosmic violence, Schumann’s Cello Concerto brings solace, featuring the rising star Victor Julien-Laferrière (laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition for cello).
