A River Called Titas

Titas Ekti Nodir Naam | Ritwik Ghatak

Centred on the kidnapping of a fisherman’s wife the day after her wedding, A River Called Titas is an ensemble film, a rare genre in Asian cinema at the time. Ritwik Ghatak, a major director in India noted for his social engagement, uses a multiple narrative in an unflinching portrayal of rural misery in Bangladesh. Trials and tragedies are reflected in a flow of images whose irrepressible power are heightened all the more in this newly restored version brought to us by Martin Scorsese and The Film Foundation. Made in 1973, this will the official Belgian premiere of the film.

Flagey, Cinematek
