When Marnie was there

Sent to the countryside for health reasons, a young girl discovers an abandoned mansion across a marsh. This is where Marnie lives, a child so mysterious that her very existence is an enigma. Veering into the fantastical, this is a haunting exploration of the past, bearing all the hallmarks of Ghibli, but which had mixed success on release. For its captivating atmosphere alone, it certainly deserves a second run.
