Les voyages de votre Faust + Béla Bartók

Jean Antoine + Joseph Benedek, Pierre Bartholomée

Sonuma is partnering with Flagey and Klarafestival to offer a programme inspired by the legend of Faust and a portrayal of Hungarian composer and pianist Béla Bartók.

Les voyages de votre Faust (Jean Antoine)
Henri Pousseur and Michel Butor first wrote Votre Faust for the theatre, not as a traditional opera, but as a mobile music-theatrical work that begins as follows: Henri, a young composer, receives a commission from a theatre director. He offers him exceptional means, all time he needs and all the money he desires, provided that it is a Faust opera. The rest of the history has an aleatory structure, and could lead, through various intersecting ways, to various possible endings according to votes cast by the audience during the intermission. For the film, Les voyages de votre Faust, directed by Jean Antoine, the authors included all available material, organised in the form of five chapters each of which led to a different ending.

Béla Bartók (Joseph Benedek, Pierre Bartholomée)
Personalities from the world of music recount their memories of the composer Béla Bartók. These include pianist Andor Foldès, violinist André Gertler, musicologist Paul Collaer, Bartók’s biographer Denys Dille, who runs the Bartók Archives in Budapest, and composer Darius Milhaud. The film includes various interpretations of works by the great Hungarian composer and is presented by Henri Pousseur.
