St. Matthew's passion - J.S. Bach
Collegium Vocale Gent, Phillippe Herreweghe
On the 11th of April 1727, on Good Friday, Johan Sebastian Bach's St Matthew Passion echoed for the first time during the vesper service in the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. The composer himself was aware that he wrote history while composing this music. To perform this three-hour masterpiece, no less than two choirs and two orchestras are needed. And even today, the St Matthew Passion remains one of the most poignant musical works ever written. For the occasion, Collegium Vocale Gent has gathered international top soloists from Belgium and abroad.
