Yomeddine
A. B. Shawky
Bashay, a cured leper and widower, leaves the leprosarium and sets off on a rambling journey across the Nile Valley in search of his long-lost family. Yomeddine is a moving road movie that takes an unflinching, yet tender and sympathetic, look at a society looking for new horizons and new hopes. Rady Gamal (a Copt) is himself an ex-leper – his scars owe nothing to make-up – and the young A.B. Shawky, selected for the official competition at Cannes with his very first feature, has a promising future.
