Ysaÿe, Belgian heritage
Opening concert | Eugène Ysaÿe Belgian heritage
Camille Saint-Saëns and Eugène Ysaÿe were musical partners on several occasions, but they were also friends. The Frenchman quickly recognized Ysaÿe's qualities as a performer and did not hesitate to entrust him with the creation of several of his works such as La muse et le poète for violin, cello and orchestra (1910), an intimate work, at once tender and dramatic. Ysaÿe was not only a violinist, but also an outstanding conductor. He was the first to present Fauré's Requiem in a symphonic version in Brussels on 28 October 1900.
