When Ysaÿe composed for Queen Elisabeth
Gabriel Fauré began working on his Piano quintet in 1887. Unsatisfied, he reworked it several times and did not complete it until almost 20 years later, in 1906. Dedicated to Eugène Ysaÿe, who encouraged Fauré to compose the work for more than 15 years, the Piano quintet was performed in Brussels for the first time on 23 March 1906 with the Ysaÿe Quartet and Fauré at the piano.
