Film catastrophe
Paul Grivas
In 2010, Jean-Luc Godard prophesied the death of the great ideologies in Film Socialisme, shot in digital format on board a giant cruise ship, the Costa Concordia. The tragic sinking of the liner two years later proved to be a remarkable metaphor for Paul Grivas, Godard’s nephew and member of the film’s production team, inspiring him to create a heady mix of on-set footage from the film and images from the disaster. The result is an unprecedented insight into the creative process of the most atypical director of the last five decades.
