Vanbeckevoort & Beethoven
Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort plays Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4: "the most admirable, singular, artistic and complex Beethoven concerto ever".
This concert will take place: without a live audience in the hall, but with a livestream. The stream will be available here on 25 February at 8pm.
Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 emerges with unexpected gentleness. Rather than the authoritarian sounds of a full orchestra, the first notes are played softly on the piano, the gentle murmuring of a theme based on repeated notes and simple harmonies.
Apart from the unorthodox decision to begin with the solo piano, the musical material itself is a bombshell. No wonder a review in May 1809 stated that "this concerto is the most admirable, singular, artistic and complex Beethoven concerto ever"
