Petite maman
Belgian premiere| Céline Sciamma
After Portrait de la jeune fille en feu, Céline Sciamma returns with Petite maman. A film in which the director returns to her roots for a coming-of-age story in which the boundaries between past and present are blurred. After the death of her grandmother, eight-year-old Nelly explores the house and surroundings where her mother grew up. She meets another young girl in the forest. Gradually it becomes clear that she knows the girl, but who is she? Nelly discovers that her mother was also young and that helps her to understand who her mother is. Sciamma made Petite maman during the 2020 lockdown. The result is an intimate and intriguing story. The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, where it was nominated for a Golden Bear. "What a superb movie - a jewel of this year's Berlin Film Festival", said The Guardian, giving the film 5 stars.
