Béla Tarr [subtitled in French]

A down-and-out violinist struggles with his surroundings... In his work, Bela Tarr unravels human relationships and places them in conflictual, sometimes upsetting atmospheres. Even in this atypical early work, this tendency is already perceptible (colour is almost an anomaly in his work and will be completely absent in his later works). The harshness of realism, reinforced by the systematic use of close-up shots, reminds us of the films of John Cassavetes.
