Aimer, boire et chanter

Alain Resnais was 91 when he made his last film, Aimer, boire et chanter, in which three couples rehearse a play while mourning a friend who only has a few months to live. Although the man does not appear in the film, he is nevertheless the centre of the action. Resnais' dashing testament, in sly lightness fashion, is based on a play by Alan Ayckbourn, whose work also inspired Resnais' Smoking/No Smoking and Cœurs.
