International Competition 10

Out of 3714 short films submissions, 59 films will compete for the prizes in the International Competition.

Winners of the Grand Prix in the International Competition and National Competitions are considered for pre-selection for the Oscars® in the Best Fiction/Animation Short Film category provided that the film complies with the Academy’s rules.

Spain - Fiction - 2020 - 20'00" - Color
Two high-school BFFS from a sleepy desert town have one last road trip together before Luz starts college with a scholarship at UCLA, while Paloma will stay behind with her 8-month-old baby boy. Their only problem is in the back sit, crying.

Slovakia - Animation - 2021 - 16'00" - Color
Once upon a time there was a sea… Aral Sea. The sea that has vanished. And along with the sea, seaside life and work disappeared. Only the dead desert terrain remained here, and wrecks of huge fishing boats lying in the sand... and people who have been living on the shores of the dry port for years, dreaming of high water and longing to sail at least once again.

Lip rouge (Minseo Cho)
South Korea - Fiction - 2020 - 18'00" - Color
Jae-hyeon, who is chased by loan sharks due to debts, eventually plays an insurance fraud to get his mother's insurance money. After the rehearsal, their plan had a falling out from the beginning. As time goes by, debt also increases.

Croatia - Fiction - 2020 - 18'00" - Clor
Zrinka arrives in her hometown for a few days to do some location scouting. She stays at her mother's Tanja's place. Since Tanja's behaviour seems strange, Zrinka takes her location scouting with her in order to find out what is troubling her. Finally, Tanja's emotional breakdown brings the two closer together.

Nicky is an excentric and outcast woman. She decides to put an end to her life after loosing her last allowances, and decides to entrust her dog Izy to her neighboor. But as the neighboor turns the dog back, a run around the clock begins for Nicky who is about to overdose… Her last hope resides in Jacques, a social services employee doing his first control at Nicky’s appartement.
