Robert de Wavrin, a Belgian ethno filmmaker
The Belgian documentary film maker Robert de Wavrin is someone who got lost into oblivious. Thanks to this documentary and the research of Grace Winter, his work has once again been put under the spotlight. Marquis de Wavrin left Belgium under violent circumstances and went to South America where he discovered between 1913 and 1936 various population groups which until then had never been filmed. He returned with these recordings devoid of any taboos. If you look at the images today, you can only conclude that they are precious as they are startling. Grace Winter and Luc Plantier sketch his life as an explorer and filmmaker. Her restorations allow us to discover these priceless contributions to Belgian ethnographic filmmaking.
