Le 23 juin 2016, les Britanniques ont décidé de sortir de l’UE. En réaction, Matthew Herbert lança le Brexit Big Band, pour célébrer la collaboration et les communautés artistiques et musicales par-delà les frontières nationales. Le projet voit le jour au moment de l’invocation de l’article 50 (le début effectif la procédure de sortie) et se terminera en 2019 lors du Brexit.
