Aleph Quintet
album release (2025, Igloo Records)
We know Wajdi Riahi from his mesmerising piano playing and interplay with his trio at last year's Brussels Jazz Festival. The Brussels-based Aleph Quintet creates a similar dialogue between jazz improvisation and harmony, Maghreb music like Gnawa, classical Arabic and Sufi music. Like gazing into the Aleph, their music lets you experience different styles from various perspectives at the same time. Their intuitive interplay and deep understanding of different traditions create something new. And at the same time, it sounds so familiar, as if it's exactly how it's supposed to be.
