Jean Jadin & Pierre Quiriny "Chomon-Motion"
Junior 3+
A three-keyboard duo: that's how piano, marimba and vibraphone come together under the hands of musicians, composers and improvisers Pierre Quiriny and Jean Jadin. Living in the same space during the confinement of 2020, they were able to literally ‘let loose’ in delirious musical improvisations with their experimental contemporary musical language, perfectly suited to the equally experimental images of filmmaker Segundo de Chomón.
The duo's ciné-concert revolves around de Chomón, a pioneer of silent and animated cinema and certainly one of the undisputed masters of the first cinematographic tricks and the beginnings of colouring moving images. He is also, in a way, the originator of ‘stop-motion’, better known to today's young audience... hence the title of the show: ‘Chomón-Motion’.
Magic and enchantment are the hallmarks of Segundo de Chomón's work. The experimental colouring techniques used in the films, the naïve and surrealistic sets, the gimmicks and, above all, the impression of making a cartoon with real actors, make the filmmaker's films veritable ‘frescoes’ to be savoured and fantastic gateways for exploring everything that can be drawn, constructed, coloured and invented in our imaginations.
The many and varied themes developed will take visitors on a journey from realism to surrealism, from dream to reality. Jules Verne said that everything that man imagines is automatically possible. Haven't we traveled to the moon? In fact, de Chomón's Finding ways to make dreams come true, or to make dreams realistic, is a perfect illustration of this!
