Love Letters
Romantic Reverie: Love Letters between Cellists
Join three celebrated cellists—Aleksey Shadrin, top laureate of the 2022 Queen Elisabeth Competition; Christian-Pierre La Marca, French cellist known for his poetic style; and Marie Hallynck, a leading Belgian cello voice—alongside pianists Lily Maisky and Muhiddin Dürrüoglu for an enchanting journey through the Romantic repertoire featuring the adaptability of the cello.
The concert begins with Schubert's sublime Arpeggione Sonata, a masterpiece of lyrical beauty (adapted for the cello from the six-stringed 19th century instrument) performed by Aleksey Shadrin and Lily Maisky. Christian-Pierre La Marca and Lily Maisky then offer us a tender interpretation of Clara Schumann's emotive Three Romances and two gems from Robert Schumann: the elegant Intermezzo from his FAE Sonata and his dreamy Fantasiestücke, works adapted from the violin and clarinet which feature in La Marca’s latest CD, “Love Letters.” After the break, they return with Franchomme's hauntingly beautiful Nocturne in C minor, who is speculated to have made significant contributions to Chopin's Cello Sonata, a powerful work full of drama and deep emotion presented by the dynamic Belgian duo, Marie Hallynck and Muhiddin Dürrüoglu!
Don’t miss this extraordinary moment of romantic bliss, brought to life by some of the most poetic artists of our time!
