Polish Classical Gems

Brussels Chamber Ensemble in Polish EU Presidency Concert

Join the Brussels Chamber Ensemble in this official Polish EU Presidency Concert featuring the true gems of Polish classical music!

The concert will open with Stanisław Moniuszko's incredibly triumphant Mazurka from the opera “Halka”. Following this, the orchestra will perform Ignacy Jan Paderewski’s Overture in E flat major – one of the only symphonic works written by Poland’s former Prime Minister (and star pianist), who was key in securing Poland’s independence after World War I. The next piece of the programme, a world premiere, is the piece that won the Brussels Chamber Ensemble’s Composition Competition for Polish Composers, specifically launched for this concert. Just before the break, the orchestra will play Mieczysław Weinberg's Suite for Orchestra - an extremely diverse piece, which has been described as combining, amongst others, a Ravel-like Romance, a Shostakovich-like Jazz Waltz, a Prokofiev-inspired Polka, and raucous circus band Galop.

For the second part of the programme, the Brussels Chamber Ensemble will join forces with Polish rising star Julia Łozowska to perform one of the pinnacles of Polish classical music: Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1.

This concert forms an official cooperation between the Brussels Chamber Ensemble and the Polish EU Presidency, that has kindly sponsored this event. The Brussels Chamber Ensemble consists of professional and semi-professional musicians, all enjoined by their love for music-making.
