Maurice Ravel was a picturesque character, often photographed wearing a flamboyant bow tie or a trendy polka-dot tie. He even curled his moustache like today's bobos. But what's most important is that there aren't many composers as gifted at telling stories through music as he was. Les Contes de la Mère l'Oye, the more disturbing Gaspard de la Nuit and the lyrical fantasy L'Enfant et les sortilèges are convincing proof of this. For its new show, the Zonzo Compagnie slips into the mind of the great musical storyteller, the son of an inventor who never stopped examining how the workings of the world worked, who always continued to look around him with the same childlike enthusiasm. The Revue Blanche ensemble - specialists in fin-de-siècle French repertoire - take you on a stroll through Ravel's captivating compositions.
