Coronation Anthems

On the strength of his acknowledged expertise in the Handelian repertoire, Hervé Niquet offers his vision of two masterpieces by the great English oratorio master: the glorious Te Deum for the Victory at the Battle of Dettingen and the sumptuous Coronation Anthems. A lover of large orchestral forms, he assembled a number of musicians and singers close to that of the premiere (admittedly plethoric), with a large section of oboes, bassoons and trumpets... and he entrusted the solo arias to the entire “chapel”: Niquet concludes: “The gleaming power of this ceremonial music, concocted by a Handel conscious of putting the best of his genius at the service of the Crown and of History,” puts all his ardor and expressiveness at the service of this music combining “grace and power”. Of course, fans of soccer and the Champions League will recognize Zadok the Priest as the theme for the anthem of this competition (albeit a little differently)!
