Brussels Philharmonic & Vlaams Radio Koor, Timothy McAllister
The key role played by the saxophone in his ballet La Création du monde was an obvious choice for Milhaud after he had toured the various jazz clubs in New York. Poulenc also wrote Les Biches as a ballet. The public went wild over it, and the work made him famous overnight. The French composer Guillaume Connesson, no newcomer to the orchestra, has been happy to be enticed by jazz and jazz royalty. His Concerto for Saxophone pays homage to the great John Coltrane.
