Bach’s Harpsicord Concertos
The concertos for several keyboards are mostly arrangements of existing works. As Thomas cantor in Leipzig, Bach had little time to compose the concertos and he made arrangements of earlier music for his harpsichord pupils. Exceptions to this are the Concerto for two harpsichords in C (BWV 1061), a completely new work, and the famous Concerto for four harpsichords. The latter is a transcription of Vivaldi's Concerto for four violins. Its sparkling energy and lush polyphony make it a masterpiece, unique in its genre.
