Collegium Vocale Gent & Philippe Herreweghe
One of the high points in Johann Sebastian Bach's oeuvre is the Mass in B minor, also known as the 'Hohe Messe'. Bach completed this grand mass in 1749 and it is praised for its perfect fusion of the old and new musical styles of his time. Yet this is not the original version of this famous work. Especially for the occasion, artist-in-residence Philippe Herreweghe and Collegium Vocale Gent surprise us with the original Missa brevis (Kyrie-Gloria) that Bach dedicated to Frederick August II, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland in 1733. It was Bach's musical job application for the post of court composer of the newly elected monarch of the time, a title that would bestowed on him three years later..
