Next Generation 7

Each year, the Next Generation competition presents a selection of films made by students in Belgian and international film schools.

37 films were selected amongst the 974 films received.

Lily, a 5-year-old girl, prepares a day of the dead party for her father who comes to visit her for the first time from Mexico, while in the care of her cousin Teo, with whom she expresses the absence of the father figure as well as her own individuality as a growing woman.

Buried beneath the opaque, grey North Sea, a monster of iron and gas threatens the Belgian coast. The shrimps follow their path without a word, the seagulls cry out in agony, what will the humans do?

In the Ukrainian Carpathians, large Western companies threaten to destroy the existence of the forestry owned by Sylwia’s family. In order to make some urgently needed money, Sylwia agrees to help to smuggle refugees across the nearby external EU border.

Jae-hyeon, who is chased by loan sharks due to debts, eventually plays an insurance fraud to get his mother's insurance money. After the rehearsal, their plan had a falling out from the beginning. As time goes by, debt also increases.
